Elmo Magalona

ELMO MAGALONA Born April 27, 1994

The sixth of eight children of Philippine Rap Master Francis M and wife, Pia Arroyo, Elmo had already tasted the limelight when his father decided to put him on the cover of his album FreeMan, when he was just 5 months old. That cover has be come one of the most iconic in the OPM scene.
Since then Elmo has always embraced the attention given him by the public, and was frequently cast in TV and Print Ads as he was quite an animated child. Even during his elementary years in school, he would continue to act in plays on- and off- campus.
With the unexpected demise of Francis M in 2009, Filipinos worldwide mourned the loss of such an icon. Elmo was then seen by an even wider audience via the news, and given the status of his father in the industry. Posthumously, a duet of Francis M with former Eraserheads front man, Ely Buendia, was released after just a few months. Needing someone to perform Francis M’s part, Elmo was then picked by Ely to sing with him at a live event. It was then that people “discovered” Elmo Magalona.
In 2010, Elmo was signed to the GMA7 Network, and did several projects with them til the end of his 5-year contract. In 2015, he moved to ABSCBN, and was immediately cast as the leading man to Janella Salvador, in the network’s romantic musical series, “Born For You.” Thus, the love-team tandem Elnella was born.
Elnella went on to make beautiful music together, with guest stints on “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” starring Coco Martin, and top-billing highly rated mini-series, such as “Wansapanataym” three times (Christmas Witch, Holly & Mau and Jasmin’s Flower Powers)! Elmo performs also on ASAP, ABSCBN’s longest-running Sunday variety show.

Last year, Elmo released his eponymous first music album, under Universal Records. In this digital age, he is one of the highest played artists in the region on Spotify. The album has currently hit Gold, with Platinum status not far behind. His first release contains original pop music, as he was just in his early 20’s when he went into studio for it. His next album will most likely see him evolve in his choice of genre, and we hope to hear him get more involved with rap in it.
Elmo Magalona is also a movie actor, with the following titles under his belt: “Tween Academy “ (Mark Reyes), “Just One Summer” (Mac Alejandre), “#Y” (Gino M Santos), “Bloody Crayons” (Topel Lee), “My Fairy Tail Love Story” (Perci Intalan) and the soon to be released “Walwal,” directed by one of the country’s most respected, Joey Javier Reyes.
This 2018, bigger things are in store for Magalona, who just turned 24. Besides the release of his second album—still under Universal Records—he is set to star in a couple of “maindie” projects for distribution on different platforms, and another tv series is in the works under a yet unnamed unit at ABSCBN. This time around, he might be tackling more serious and challenging parts, which could finally see him in what he has always dreamt of doing: action roles.
As an artist, Elmo counts himself very lucky and proud to be able to perform in different countries for his countrymen, the hard working OFWs. They do so much for their families, and make sacrifices in search of a better future for their loved ones. He sees every opportunity as a blessing to be able to continue his father’s legacy. As Francis M steadfastly sang on his signature anthem, Mga Kababayan: “bilib ako sa kulay ko… ako ay Pilipino!”
